I am committed to supporting efforts that promote a healthier and more vibrant community. I understand the negative impact that gas-powered leaf blowers can have on both our environment and our quality of life. The excessive noise from these machines not only disrupts the peace in our neighborhoods but also poses potential health risks, especially to young children and the operators of the equipment.
On a personal level, I’ve experienced the frustration of having my baby’s nap disturbed by the hours-long noise of nearby landscaping work. During my outdoor wedding, we even had the unfortunate experience of a neighboring property’s loud machinery running in the background, forever captured in our wedding video. Having worked closely with animals as a dog trainer, I’ve also seen firsthand the distress that disruptive noise causes to both pets and wildlife in our community. These experiences have strengthened my resolve to support the transition to quieter, more sustainable alternatives.
I believe that advancing the City’s transition from gas-powered to electric-powered equipment is a worthwhile goal. I am open to initiatives such as updating the City’s noise ordinance to better address disturbances from lawn equipment and supporting proposed legislation to allow localities to regulate gas-powered leaf blowers.
By making these changes, we can reduce noise pollution, lower harmful emissions, and create a cleaner, quieter community for all residents. I look forward to working with community members, local businesses, and advocacy groups like Quiet Clean NOVA to ensure a thoughtful and equitable transition.
