On July 19th, 2026, the County Board amended the noise ordinance to ban gas-powered blowers and vacuums – but only effective as of Jan 1st, 2029. The public hearing was to determine the transition period – 18 months to 36 months. Several landscape companies spoke at the public hearing claiming they needed a full 3 years to adapt. Pitching for the shorter period of 18 months were 3 members of Quiet Clean NOVA, a member of Eco Arlington, the Sierra Club, and a few individuals. Maureen Coffey of the County Board proposed a transition time of 30 months which passed unanimously.
